Cancellation & Refunds
Last updated: 10 June 2026
This policy explains how to cancel a paid subscription, what happens at the end of your billing period, and your statutory rights as a UK/EU consumer for digital services.
Please note: this is a template starting point, not legal advice — have it reviewed by a qualified professional before relying on it.
1. How to cancel
You can cancel a paid subscription at any time:
- Through the billing portal — open Manage Billing from your account to manage or cancel your subscription (this is handled securely by Stripe);
- Or from your account settings within the app;
- Or by emailing hello@councilofelders.co.uk and we’ll help.
2. What happens at the end of the period
When you cancel, your subscription stops auto-renewing. You keep access to your paid plan until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you won’t be charged again. After that date your account moves to the free tier. We don’t charge a cancellation fee.
3. Your 14-day cancellation right (digital services)
As a consumer you normally have a statutory right to cancel a purchase of digital services within 14 days of buying it and receive a refund (the “cooling-off period”) under the Consumer Contracts Regulations.
Important: by starting to use a paid subscription immediately — within the 14-day period — you ask us to begin providing the digital service straight away and you acknowledge that you may lose your 14-day right to cancel once the service has been fully provided. Where the service has only been partly provided, any refund may be reduced to reflect what you have already used.
4. How to request a refund
To request a refund, email hello@councilofelders.co.uk from the address on your account, telling us which plan you’re on and why. If you are within the cooling-off period and your statutory right still applies, we’ll process the refund to your original payment method (via Stripe), typically within 14 days of agreeing it.
Outside the statutory right, subscription fees are generally non-refundable for periods already started, but please still get in touch — we want you to be treated fairly and will consider refunds case by case, for example where the service was faulty.
5. Faulty or misdescribed service
Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights. If the service is not as described, or not provided with reasonable care and skill, you may be entitled to a repeat performance or a price reduction under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
